Celebrating Community!

I hope you have a big circle on your calendar for Thursday, October 1, 2009. That’s the night when we forget our worries and let loose with a fantastic evening of food and fun. You deserve a night out and CAI-CT is providing the perfect opportunity for you to kick back and party with your fellow CAI-CT members. Sure, there will be wine-tasting, a fabulous dinner, entertainment, prizes, and more but most importantly there will be people there, just like you and me, who know the joys and the perils of living in a community association. We all deserve to have some fun and the CAI-CT Supper and Soiree is just the place to do it. Call the office today at (860) 633-5692and reserve your space.

Sometimes, you just need a good party to help you appreciate what you have. Sometimes, you just need to have fun and celebrate the joys of life with your friends. Sometimes, you just need to join us at Oronoque Village in Stratford on Thursday, October 1st as we “Celebrate Community” with a Supper and Soiree. And, sometimes, you just need to come see me dress up in a tuxedo and be your Emcee… See you there!

Where Does Your Insurance Come From?
If you are a Property Manager or a member of a Board of Directors for your community association, you know all too well the agony and the ecstasy of insuring your community. But have you ever given thought to where your insurance actually comes from?

Let’s start with the term, underwriting, which dates back to early days of exploration and trade by seagoing merchants and adventurers. Before a ship would set sail on its journey, the financial bankers who had agreed to accept some of the risk of the voyage in exchange for a premium, would literally write their names under the risk information which was written on a slip of paper provided by Lloyd’s of London, expressly for this purpose. These bankers were literally the underwriters of the venture.

Underwriting in our modern world has changed considerably, although much of the same model is in place. Locally, most of us purchase our insurance through local insurance sales agencies. The membership roster of CAI-CT boasts several highly qualified local agencies, some local offices of larger insurers, and some national members with a local presence. If you haven’t already done so, you should really take a look at our online directory of local insurance resources. Point your browser to http://www.caict.org/vendor_directory.htm#Insurance and have a look.

Readers of my column will not be surprised to hear me endorse CAI merchants as your best choice for purchasing goods and services for your community. When it comes to purchasing insurance for your community association, it is truly in your best interest to work with a CAI-CT member company as they are the local specialists in the condominium and common interest marketplace. If you’ve experienced rate hikes, dropped coverage, or insurers simply deciding they no longer want your business over the past few years, you already know how important it is to have an expert assist your community in procuring the right policy and coverage for your needs. You need not go it alone. Our members are ready to assist you.

My community, Captain’s Walk, has been insured through a CAI-CT member agency for years and we couldn’t be happier. When I hear of other communities suffering with insurance problems, I rejoice in my community’s decision to do business with an expert. As the final quarter of 2009 comes along, I ask you to consider where your insurance is coming from. Are you getting the expert help and guidance you deserve? If not, consider contacting a CAI-CT Insurance Agent member. It’s the only way to know you’ve done the best job at procuring the best insurance for your community.
